Girdler House’s purpose is to provide a home-like atmosphere for fourteen elderly women who are still able to care for themselves. We are committed to offering affordable, supervised living in a safe, nurturing environment while supporting their well-being and independence.
We are dedicated to providing dignity in care while embracing the challenges that come with aging. Our family and community relationships are a vital part of our home and mission. We partner with our resident’s families, taking a relationship-based approach to caregiving, while preventing more costly placements whenever possible. This non-profit establishment is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors who oversee and collaborate with the staff to achieve this noble, long-standing mission. |
12 Lovett Street, original location of the "Old Ladies Home Society."
|
In 1900, five ladies began their residence in a small house at 12 Lovett Street. Many more women were interested, but turned away because of the small size of the property purchased. Subsequent community support and interest from church groups, individuals and businesses allowed The Old Ladies Home Society to buy and refit the Beverly Inn property at 78 Lothrop Street, accommodating 15 residents beginning in 1919.
In 1967 The Old Ladies Home Society adopted Girdler House (after its first president) as their business name. The Girdler House today is still located at the Lothrop Street location providing a residential home for elderly women. |
